Pool Circulation Basics
- Pool pumps are sized by turnover: pool volume ÷ desired turnover time (commonly 4–8 hours) gives the required flow in m³/h
- Head demand is usually low — the filter and pipework dominate — so avoid an oversized pump that pushes media through the filter too fast
- Short, low-restriction suction runs keep the pump primed and quiet
- A basket strainer upstream protects the impeller from debris
Garden Watering Basics
- One standard garden sprinkler needs roughly 10–20 L/min; add the number of sprinklers that run together
- Add 10 m of head for each 1 bar of pressure needed at the sprinkler, plus friction losses along the hose
- Self-priming models lift from rain tanks and cisterns without a separate feed pump

Can a garden jet pump be used for a small pool?
For a very small pool or water feature, yes. For a filtration system running several hours a day, a dedicated pool pump is the better choice — it is designed for continuous duty and matched filter flow.
How long can the pump run at a time?
Our domestic ranges are built for normal household and garden duty cycles. For continuous-duty applications, tell us the schedule and we will recommend the right model rather than an oversized domestic unit.
Will the pump cope with a rain tank 3 m below?
Yes — self-priming models handle suction lifts up to 9 m, provided the suction line is airtight.
